Frequently Asked Questions
How do I fill out an application for the examination?
SRTA utilizes a 3rd party vendor to help process all online applications. Simply go online to BrightTrac.com and fill out a simple profile. Be sure to have:
  • A recent digital "headshot" of close proximity
  • A valid digital (scanned) copy of recent CPR certification
  • Proof of graduation
How do I know if everything is filled out correctly in my online application?
After you register and login to the online application your "Dashboard" will give indication of your current status.
A blue indicator with a checkmark such as this:
Indicates successful completion of a step.

A light red indicator with an exclamation mark alerts you to incomplete items on your application:
If the only red indicator on your profile is the validation indicator (seen just above), please allow up to one (1) week for SRTA to validate your profile. You will receive an email notice when this process has been completed.

I have a Format Guide from a previous year, do I need to download a new one?
Yes. The formats contain the current guidelines for the examinations. Information from a previous year may no longer be applicable.

Can I apply to take only the jurisprudence examination?
No. SRTA no longer offers the jurisprudence examinations for member states. Please contact the respective Board of Dentistry for the state where you are seeking licensure. The Virginia jurisprudence is offered through PSI, Examination Services Division at 1(800) 733-9267.

I have applied for an examination, but my patient(s) cannot attend. Can I get a refund?
Application fees are not refundable and may not be applied to a future examination. Failure to appear for a scheduled examination will result in the loss of the candidate’s fee unless the Agency has received written notification fifteen days prior to the application deadline - in such cases a 50% refund will be given. Refunds will not be given for a patient’s failure to appear, non-acceptability of a patient, or a candidate’s inability to secure patients for the examination. Patient approval is considered part of the examination.

How do I know my equipment will work at the scheduled site and what materials will be supplied?
